What is Byeol Community?

ByeoluiByeol Community Against Discrimination (hereafter Byeol Community) is an activist group organizing against discrimination and structural inequalities in South Korea. We aim to be a community space for anyone interested in discussing and taking actions on structural injustice, discrimination, and inequalities. We organize projects, groups, and events centered around anti-discrimination and social justice issues.

Our Activities

We run projects, groups, and events centered around anti-discrimination and social justice issues, all organized at the grassroots level by our community members. Our activities draw from an intersectional understanding of discrimination and examines the ways in which structural inequalities manifest at the everyday level as microaggressions and other forms of discrimination. We strive to engage the public in issues of discrimination, social justice, and structural inequalities through various forms including one-time events and projects that run for 3-6 months. In doing so, we hope to foster 'byeol's (Korean word for 'star') who are able to resist structural discrimination and injustice.

Our community members (called 'Byeolmuri', a Korean word for star clusters) participate in and organize our activities. Our free membership is open to anyone interested in discussing and taking action against issues of discrimination.

Have questions or want to collaborate?

While based in South Korea, we are interested in collaborating transnationally to build momentum against structural discrimination/inequalities and support social justice movements around the world.
